Vintage phonograph and antique record players displayed on wooden tables in a museum setting.

This portrait series explores daughters growing up within families shaped by craft, skill, and tradition — the quiet inheritance of knowledge passed from one generation to the next.

Each image reflects a girl beginning to understand the work that surrounds her world.

From lighthouse keepers and sailors to watchmakers, botanists, librarians, and cartographers: every portrait reveals a daughter standing at the threshold of legacy.

A Living Series

Participate in the Series

Daughters of Craft is an ongoing fine art portrait project exploring the quiet inheritance of knowledge, skill, and tradition passed from one generation to the next.

Each portrait is thoughtfully designed to reflect a family’s craft...from sailors and watchmakers to botanists, librarians, and makers of all kinds.

If your family carries a craft, trade, or tradition that has shaped generations, you may be invited to participate in a future portrait within the series.

A small number of portraits are created for this project each year.
