Fine Art Children’s Portrait Series | Daughters of Story

A Fine Art Portrait Series by Katrina Brothers

Close-up view of used paint brushes with colorful dried paint residue arranged diagonally across the frame.

This portrait series explores daughters growing up surrounded by stories : the books read at bedtime, the poems written in quiet moments, and the imagined worlds that shape how a child begins to see herself.

Each portrait reflects a girl discovering the power of storytelling: through words, imagination, art, and creativity.

Some daughters lose themselves in the pages of a book.

Some begin to write stories of their own.

Some dream of worlds that do not yet exist.

Every portrait reveals a daughter discovering the stories that will help shape the person she becomes.

A Living Series

Participate in the Series

Daughters of Story is an ongoing fine art portrait project exploring the quiet relationship between childhood and imagination.

Each portrait reflects a girl discovering the power of stories: the books opened late at night, the poems written in quiet moments, the worlds created through words, art, and dreams.

These images are not simply about stories themselves, but about the way children learn to imagine, create, and step into the narratives that shape how they begin to see themselves.

Some daughters lose themselves in the pages of a book.

Some begin to write stories of their own.

Some dream of worlds that exist only in their imagination, waiting to be brought to life.

Each portrait tells the story of a young girl discovering the creative voice growing within her.

A small number of portraits are created for this series each year.

Vintage phonograph record players and antique audio equipment displayed on wooden tables in a museum-like setting.
