Why Moms Should Be in the Photos Too | Family Photography

And why stepping in front of the camera matters more than you think
There’s a pattern I see at almost every session.
Mom gets everyone ready.
Outfits are coordinated. Hair is brushed. Snacks are packed. Timing is planned down to the minute.
And then when the session begins, she quietly steps back.
“I just want photos of the kids.”
“I don’t need to be in them.”
“Maybe just one quick one of me…”
But here’s the truth I gently share every time:
You belong in these photos just as much as they do.

Years from now, your children will not be looking at these images and thinking about perfect outfits or whether the light was just right.
They will be looking for you.
The way you held them.
The way they fit in your arms.
The way you looked at them.
You are not just the one documenting their childhood.
You are their childhood.
It’s so easy to feel like you’re “not ready.” You want to lose a little weight, you want your hair to be better, you want the timing to feel perfect...but your children don’t see any of that.
They see their mom.
The one who shows up.
The one who comforts them.
The one who laughs with them.
One day, these images will be more than photographs.
They will be memories they can hold onto.
And they won’t care about perfection.
They will care that you were there.
When you step into the frame, you’re doing more than taking a picture.
You’re showing your children:
“This matters.”
“Our story matters.”
“Our time together is worth remembering.”
These images become part of your family’s history.
Albums passed down, frames on walls, and moments that don’t fade.
And your presence in them changes everything.
So often, moms are behind the camera. Behind the scenes. Behind everything. But you deserve to be seen.
Not just for how everything looks…but for who you are in this season of life.
Because this season matters too.
If being in front of the camera feels uncomfortable, you’re not alone. As a mom of four, I understand how often you’re the one behind it. That’s where I come in.
I guide you.
I pose you naturally.
I create space for real moments.
You don’t need to have it all figured out.
You just need to show up.
I’ll take care of the rest.
There will come a time when these photographs are no longer just “pictures.”
They will be reminders.
Of how it felt.
Of what it looked like.
Of who was there.
Make sure you are part of that story.

If you’ve been putting off family photos because you don’t feel ready…
This is your sign.
You don’t need to wait for the perfect moment.
This already is one.
