Your session begins the moment you inquire. Before a single photo is taken, I am already thinking about: who you are as a family, the dynamic between your children, the feeling you want your images to have, and where the light will fall best for your session. This is where the foundation is built. Every decision from location to timing is made with intention, so your images feel effortless… even though they are anything but random.
Not every beautiful location photographs beautifully. I carefully select locations based on: light direction at sunset, tide patterns for beach sessions, how crowded a location may be, and background simplicity so you remain the focus to list a few. A location is not just a backdrop. It is part of the story your photographs will tell.
One of the biggest differences in professional photography is when the session happens. I photograph sessions about an hour to an hour and a half before sunset. It creates that soft, golden glow, skin tones that look natural and luminous, the dreamy, and the timeless feeling so many families love. Midday light cannot replicate this. Editing cannot fix poor lighting. This is planned, not accidental.
Before your session, I guide you through what to wear and how to prepare. This includes: coordinating outfits without being overly matched, choosing tones that complement the environment, and avoiding patterns or colors that distract from connection. The goal is not perfection. The goal is a cohesive, elevated look that allows your images to feel timeless years from now.
One of the most common things I hear is: “I just want natural photos.” And you absolutely should have them.
But here is the truth most people don’t realize: Natural moments are often gently guided. During your session, I am: watching how your children interact, giving subtle direction to create movement and connection, adjusting your positioning to flatter you in the light, and anticipating moments before they happen. This is what allows your images to feel real, not posed… while still being beautifully composed.
After your session ends, the work is far from over. Each image is carefully reviewed and professionally edited. This includes: color correction for accurate, true-to-life tones, skin tone adjustments that remain natural, removing distractions that take away from your image, and enhancing light in a way that feels soft and refined. Editing is not about filters. It is about finishing the image the way it was meant to be seen.
